Getting around Selkirk just got a whole lot easier
Starting June 15, 2026, the City of Selkirk is introducing free transit for youth — the program is called NextStop.
NextStop is all about helping youth get to where they need to go — whether it’s school, work, activities, or just hanging out with friends.
Who can access the NextStop Pass?
- All students who live in Selkirk aged 12-21 (who go to school in Selkirk or elsewhere)
- Students aged 12-21 from outside of Selkirk who go to school in Selkirk.
- Adults attending the Selkirk Adult Learning Program who are under 21.
Kids 5 and under are also free with a fare paying adult but do not require a pass.
For everyone else, fares can be paid with cash, tickets, or a monthly pass. See Fares Here.
Where do I get a pass?
Passes are available at the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (the Comp) and at École Selkirk Junior High (ESJH) to all students at least 12 years of age who attend those schools.
Students who live in Selkirk but go to school elsewhere or students who go to school in Selkirk requiring a card outside of school hours, can get a pass from the City of Selkirk Civic Office at 200 Eaton Ave. with ID and proof of enrollment to ESJH or the Comp.
- ID can be a current student card, MB health card, drivers license, Treaty card, Métis card, passport, birth certificate — really, any valid ID with your name on it.
- Proof of enrollment can be a class schedule from the most current year, recent transcript, any school related document with your name and current year that proves you are a student at ESJH or the Comp.
- For youth who live in Selkirk but attend school outside of Selkirk, your own or your parents’ proof of residency is required.
Unlike traditional bus passes, these are not available on the bus.
Planning your trip is easy
Selkirk Transit runs on a simple one-hour loop around the city.
There are 70 stops along the route, and the bus restarts the loop every hour. That means if you’re waiting at Stop #1, the bus will arrive right on the hour—like 2:00, 3:00, or 4:00.
The bus schedule can be found here.

What are the hours of the bus?
Buses run Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.,
and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There’s currently no service on Sundays or holidays.
Why NextStop?
Because this about more than just getting around. It’s about equity, connection and building a more sustainable community.
